Headphones can make an individual workout more enjoyable, but a shared session requires you to hear instructions and other people.

Ask the venue or instructor whether headphones are appropriate during the class. If the session depends on spoken cues, demonstrations or quick changes, listening to your own soundtrack may make participation harder. Removing headphones for instructions is more reliable than assuming a transparency mode will capture every word.
For individual training, choose a volume that lets you remain aware of the space. NHS guidance advises against listening too loudly. Do not keep increasing the volume to compete with a noisy gym; consider whether a quieter position or no audio would be more comfortable.
Try the style with the movements you normally make. Earbuds that repeatedly fall out can prompt sudden reaching, while a headband may shift during floor work. Cables should not trail near equipment or catch when you turn. Adjust or remove headphones while safely at rest, not during a loaded movement.
Controls should be simple enough to pause audio without looking at a phone. A device that requires several taps to hear someone can be inconvenient in a group setting. Check compatibility with glasses, hearing devices or headwear you normally use, and seek suitable advice where needed.
Noise cancellation may help avoid raising volume in some situations, but blocking environmental sound can be unsuitable near traffic or on shared paths. An awareness mode is not a guarantee that you will notice a vehicle or warning. Remove or pause headphones when crossing and give the surroundings your attention.
Check the manufacturer's sweat and water limitations before exercising in the product. Clean contact surfaces as directed and let them dry before returning them to a charging case. Moisture resistance does not mean you can charge a wet device.
Compare battery life with your actual use, but avoid treating long runtime as the main feature. A comfortable fit, clear pause control and manageable listening level matter more during a normal class. If headphones repeatedly isolate you from instructions or people, leave them for another part of the day.
